In excess of winter, the eggs hatch into incredibly tiny salmon referred to as alevin which still have their yolk sac connected. Alevins remain near the redd for a few months hiding from predators while in the Areas among gravel. All through this stage they eat the yolk sac and improve in sizing. The species constructs a nest or "redd" in the gra
